Liquid waste incineration

Liquid waste disposal

Liquid waste disposal systems are very similar to gas cleaning systems by recuperative thermal oxidation. They are based on introducing the liquids in an oxidation chamber where the gases are at a minimum temperature of 850 ºC. Under these conditions, the liquid evaporates and the organic compounds ignite, turning into carbon dioxide and water.

The chamber incorporates a burner that is responsible for heating the chamber to working temperature and maintaining it in case the residual liquids do not have enough calorific value.

In addition, there is an ambient air inlet to introduce the necessary air to achieve the complete oxidation of the organic compounds.

Very versatile disposal plants

These plants are very versatile, being able to eliminate from slightly contaminated water to organic solvents that cannot be reused. In this case, the burner will be kept off and the heat produced in the combustion of the solvents will be used to maintain the working temperature.

In order to make the disposed waste profitable, it will be convenient to install a heat recovery system from the gases generated in the combustion.

In the event that the liquid waste contains a large amount of ash, which would dirty the heat exchangers, it can be evaporated in a distillation tank and the vapors can be introduced into the oxidation chamber, which will be free of salts or other non-combustible inorganic materials.

Waste incineration regulations

To comply with the regulations applicable to the incineration of waste (in Spain, Royal Decree 815/2013), the oxidation chamber is dimensioned so that the combustion gases remain at a minimum temperature of 850 ºC for a time of 2 seconds. If the residues contain organohalogen compounds, the temperature in the oxidation chamber should be 1.100 ºC.
